Camden High Street Practice Bridges 1

Fixing Dental Gaps with Bridges

Bridges are a permanent and natural-looking way to fill a gap caused by one or more missing teeth.

A bridge is a plastic false tooth held by the tooth next to it. It is generally made of a gold base, with tooth-coloured porcelain bonded to visible locations to make it look natural.

The two neighbouring teeth will often have a crown fixed to them. A bridge is then put between them consisting of a false tooth, which is cemented in place. This is called a fixed bridge.

Fixed bridges are a good option if your teeth on either side are strong enough, are already crowned or have large fillings.

Sometimes adhesive bridges can be used. These bonds have less of an effect on the surrounding teeth because new techniques have been developed to retain the false tooth in position.

There are several reasons your dentist might recommend a bridge for you to fill a gap in your mouth. You may:

  • have a visible space and don’t like the idea of having a denture
  • already have a denture and would prefer a different solution
  • have gaps at the back of your mouth and feel that you do not chew as well as you might
  • have gaps which do not worry you, but your dentist has noticed that your bite is altering, causing or potentially causing damage to other teeth
  • want to have a better-looking smile

The length of time a bridge lasts will depend on the strength of the supporting teeth, how much your teeth bite, and how well the bridge is groomed with timely dental hygiene and nutritious eating habits. If all these components are favourable, the bridge will last a lifetime.

There are many different designs of bridge, including porcelain, porcelain bonded to precious metal, and ceramic. If a supporting tooth is root canalled, it can’t have a metal or carbon fibre post fitted until it’s needed to support it or retain the abutment. The appropriate type of abutment for your unique needs will be based on the need for strength and appearance.
Your dentist will explain the differences and advise which is best for your circumstances. Cost will also be considered.

You will need two appointments. At your first appointment, your dentist will shape and cut the teeth adjacent to those to be worn via the crowning procedure. An impression will be made and sent to the lab technician, who will make the bridge. The shade of your teeth will be selected to blend in with your existing teeth. An additional temporary crown or a bridge may be cemented onto to the teeth by the dentist until the next visit.
At your second appointment, the temporary crowns bridge will be removed, the permanent bridge inserted and carefully tested to gauge fit, appearance and proper bite. Any necessary adjustments will take place and, once complete, the bridge will be permanently cemented to the supporting tooth cores.

No. There must be ample adjacent teeth and they should be strong enough to endure the added chewing forces they’re going to be expected to take. Also, the bone supporting the adjacent teeth must be strong enough.

Some other options for filling a space are both a removable denture and a titanium implant.

This will change based on the number of teeth involved, the situation, and your dental tech ‘s fee. The fee for your dental bridge will depend on the material used. Your oral specialist will provide these details to you.

Your dentist or hygienist will instruct you on how to care for your bridge. You’ll need to clean it every day using special tools or floss. A conventional toothbrush will not reach beneath the bridge.

Testimonials

Doctor James is very professional and kind, I need to remove 2 wisdom teeth, very quickly and not pain at all. Very good experience!!

Highly recommended, I wouldn’t want to go to any other dental practice! Kiran has literally made my year when she called to inform me that I have cleared the waiting list to see an NHS dentist! I saw Dr Sharam who is an amazing dentist, yes I had an issue after one of the double molar extractions that I had done, however, all it took was one phone call and Louise fitted me in same day and Dr Sharam has sorted it all out. I have received the best service and excellent care, I really couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you team, keep it up!

Dr Shirazi is great, he is friendly and you feel in comfort in his care!

Wissam Aessa

I’ve been to alot of dentists, and this was a completely different experience, everyone was so nice, even the receptionists, they really listened to me, took their time and got the job done, if you are looking for the best dentist I’ve ever been to, then look no further. You will not regret it

Undine Vita-Mors

Excellent customer service especially by one phenomenal receptionist in particular! Today as soon as I entered the practice I was welcomed by an incredibly friendly and lovely receptionist named Kiran, who from the moment I arrived made me comfortable. She ensured a smooth check-in process. Once my appointment was over (which was a great cleaning by Dr Patel), she effectively conveyed information and instructions related to my visit. Overall my visit was positively impacted by this receptionist and made my entire process more pleasant and stress-free. She most DEFINITELY deserves a raise!!!

Ubah Ahmed

I had a wisdom tooth removed and a filling today, I cannot fault my treatment! My dentist was very skilled and calming! I didn’t even feel the injections! Restored my faith in dentists! TOO CLASS!!

Tony Hamilton

Dr Yasha Shirazi has been my dentist for over 3 years now and I couldn’t recommend him more. Not only is he a great dentist, he’s also empathetic to your situation and completely honest about all the options available. Very lucky to have found this place while living in the area for uni, but now making the trip from the other side of London to avoid changing to another practice.

Tom Layhe

Rena did a really good job. I love the results .

Suad Addow

Dr Yasha saw me when my teeth were a mess, I was super self conscious about it and it was affecting my life really negatively. I needed 3 bridges, which are still holding up great, and I’m on the practice plan so have the motivation to go in for regular hygienist and checkup appointments. Not only is my oral health better than ever, my overall wellbeing and peace of mind is immeasurably improved. The care and consistency of treatment I’ve received from Dr Yasha and hygienist Ramin has made going to the dentist (almost) a pleasure. 100% would recommend. Really great people doing excellent work.

Steve James

I was recommended by a friend as I had a bad experience with my last dentist. Lovely professional practice both dentist and hygienist are efficient and the ladies at the front desk are most helpful always happy to assist.
